Before booking Mercure Hai Phong: choose the right room and check the full cost

Mercure Hai Phong is a good choice if you want a five-star hotel near the city centre, with a rooftop pool and rooms suited to both short and extended stays. If your trip revolves around Do Son Beach, you need to stay right by the airport, or you prefer an indoor pool during winter, another location may work better.

Mercure Hai Phong at 12 Lach Tray at sunset, seen across the lake.

2:00 PM is the standard check-in time at Mercure Hai Phong, a five-star hotel at 12 Lach Tray Street. From here, you can walk towards Lach Tray Stadium, Hai Phong Opera House and the older shopping streets, or take a car to Cat Bi International Airport. The property offers both conventional hotel rooms and serviced apartments, so it is worth checking the room category and breakfast arrangement before confirming your reservation.

Where is Mercure Hai Phong, and is it convenient for sightseeing?

Mercure Hai Phong is located at 12 Lach Tray Street, Le Chan Ward, Hai Phong, Vietnam. This is the address used by Accor following Vietnam’s administrative changes on July 1, 2025.

Some booking platforms, map listings and older travel articles still show the former address as Lach Tray Ward, Ngo Quyen District. Both refer to the same hotel, not separate Mercure properties.

The hotel stands near the beginning of Lach Tray Street, close to the stadium and Hai Phong’s traditional city centre. It is a practical base for first-time visitors who want to spend their days sightseeing and find restaurants or cafés nearby in the evening.

How far is Mercure from Hai Phong’s main attractions?

The following distances are approximate. Actual walking times depend on your route and pace.

DestinationApproximate distanceGetting there
Lach Tray Stadium200 mA few minutes on foot
Hai Phong Opera House1 km12-15 minutes on foot
Hai Phong Railway Station1-1.5 kmWalk or take a short car ride

Hai Phong Opera House is a useful landmark for exploring the old centre. From Mercure, you can head towards the Opera House Square, continue along Hoang Van Thu and Cau Dat streets, and then make your way to the Tam Bac area.

These streets are close enough to explore over an afternoon, with plenty of opportunities to stop for food or coffee.

Mercure is not directly beside Tam Bac Lake, however. If you want to step outside your hotel and immediately reach the lakeside promenade or the old commercial streets, a property closer to Tam Bac may suit you better.

What can you do near Mercure in the evening?

Hai Phong introduced a new evening shopping, cultural and food street around 53 Lach Tray on October 30, 2026.

The area operates from 5:00 PM to midnight daily, with 52 stalls selling food, drinks, souvenirs and other products. The space extends from Lach Tray towards An Bien Lake, passing the Children’s Cultural Palace and the city’s Martyrs’ Memorial.

The project is being trialled until April 2027. Mercure guests can visit after dinner or combine it with a walk around Lach Tray, although operating arrangements beyond the trial period will need to be checked.

There are also established local eateries around the hotel.

One address worth looking for is Banh Da Cua Ba Cu at 51 Lach Tray Street, known for Hai Phong-style crab noodle soup and dishes featuring crab and mantis shrimp. The business also has a location at 179 Cau Dat Street.

If you would rather start your day with a local bowl of crab noodles, eating outside the hotel is an easy alternative to paying for breakfast.

On the other hand, guests who need a quick meal before a meeting may find the hotel’s buffet more convenient.

Getting from Cat Bi Airport to Mercure Hai Phong

Cat Bi International Airport is approximately 6.8-7 km from the hotel by road. The journey usually takes around 20-30 minutes, although traffic can be slower during evening rush hour or major events around Lach Tray Street.

You can book an electric taxi through Green SM, formerly Xanh SM, using its mobile app or calling 1555.

Check the estimated fare in the app before confirming your ride. Prices depend on the journey and time of travel.

Accor also lists an airport transfer service for an additional charge. This is not a complimentary shuttle automatically included with every reservation.

If you are arriving late or travelling with several suitcases, contact the hotel beforehand to ask about transfer arrangements and pricing.

For international guests, save this address for your driver:

Is Mercure Hai Phong a five-star hotel? What room types are available?

Mercure Hai Phong is officially presented by Accor as a five-star property, with 176 hotel rooms and 57 serviced apartments.

The distinction matters because these two accommodation types serve different purposes, even though they are within the same building.

Travellers staying for one or two nights will often be comfortable in a Superior or Privilege room. Families spending several days in Hai Phong, or business travellers on extended assignments, may appreciate having a kitchen and washing machine.

Superior rooms: a practical choice for short stays

Superior King and Superior Twin are the hotel’s entry-level room options.

According to Mercure, a Superior King room measures approximately 26 m² and includes a king-size bed, work desk, Wi-Fi, 43-inch television, safe, air conditioning and private bathroom.

A 26 m² Superior King room, with the desk beside a window over the city.

Superior Twin provides separate beds, making it suitable for colleagues, friends or family members who do not want to share one large bed.

At 26 m², the room has enough space for two people and ordinary luggage. For a longer stay with two large suitcases, however, there is less room to spread out than in a serviced apartment.

One detail to check is the bathroom configuration. Mercure indicates that Superior King rooms may have a shower or bathtub, so do not assume every room comes with a bathtub.

If that matters to you, ask the hotel to confirm the arrangement before booking.

Privilege rooms: additional benefits beyond the bedroom

Privilege King and Privilege Twin are intended for travellers who want extra services during their stay.

Along with standard room facilities, Mercure lists benefits such as a coffee machine, access to the Privilege Lounge on the 27th floor, complimentary laundry privileges under applicable conditions, and selected dining or spa offers.

The Privilege Lounge serves afternoon tea, snacks and drinks during designated hours. This can be useful for business travellers who want somewhere to sit, work or meet without leaving the hotel.

However, Privilege rooms are not necessarily much larger than Superior rooms. Both King and Twin configurations are listed at approximately 26 m² in accommodation descriptions.

The additional cost is therefore better judged by the lounge access and other benefits rather than the room name alone.

Before upgrading, check which privileges are included in your specific rate. Accor membership benefits may also vary according to membership status and booking conditions.

Deluxe Suite: more living space, but not a serviced apartment

The Deluxe Suite is worth considering if you want a separate sitting area or extra space to relax and entertain visitors.

It includes a living room with a sofa, a king-size bedroom, a bathtub and a separate shower. Mercure also lists access to the Privilege Lounge among its benefits.

The main difference from a serviced apartment is how the space is intended to be used.

A suite provides more room for relaxation and receiving guests, while an apartment is designed for everyday living, including cooking, laundry and longer stays.

For a two-night trip, the Deluxe Suite makes sense if you value the extra sitting space and lounge access.

For parents who want to prepare simple meals for a child or wash clothes regularly, a one-bedroom apartment may be a better fit.

Studio apartments: a small kitchen area

Mercure offers both Studio Apartment King and Studio Apartment Twin.

The Studio King includes a seating area, work desk, king-size bed and a small semi-open kitchenette. This arrangement is convenient for preparing simple food, making drinks or keeping a more independent daily routine.

A studio is not the same as an apartment with a separate bedroom and living room. Most activities still take place within one main space.

A business traveller staying for four or five nights may find a studio sufficient.

Families requiring a separate bedroom, or two people with different sleeping schedules, should consider a one-bedroom apartment instead.

One-, two- and three-bedroom apartments: better for longer visits

The One-Bedroom Apartment has a separate bedroom, living area with a sofa bed, fully equipped kitchen and washing machine.

That makes it quite different from a Superior room, especially for guests staying for a week or travelling with young children.

The Two-Bedroom Apartment includes two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a living room, kitchen and washing machine.

It offers more privacy for families or colleagues who would otherwise need to book multiple hotel rooms.

Kitchen, dining table and sofa in a two-bedroom apartment, suited to families staying several days.

The Three-Bedroom Apartment provides three bedrooms, two bathrooms, a separate living room and a kitchen.

It is designed for larger families or groups, although you should check the permitted occupancy rather than assuming the number of beds determines how many guests can stay.

Apartment guests can still use the hotel’s facilities. Choosing an apartment does not mean giving up access to restaurants, the pool or other services.

Before confirming a longer stay, ask about housekeeping frequency, linen changes, kitchen use and laundry arrangements.

Short-stay apartment rates and extended-stay contracts may come with different conditions, even when the accommodation type has the same name.

How much does Mercure Hai Phong cost per night?

Mercure Hai Phong room rates depend on travel dates, room category, number of guests, breakfast arrangements and cancellation conditions.

A single quoted price cannot reliably represent what the hotel costs throughout the year.

As a reference, booking channels listed rooms from VND 1,431,237 per night in 2026. This is an advertised starting price, not a confirmed quotation for a particular stay.

Another example: for the night of September 13-14, 2026, a room for two adults was advertised from SGD 82, including taxes and fees.

That amount applied to a specific date in the past. It should not be treated as a current November rate or a forecast for future holidays.

These figures are useful only as a rough indication of budget. To get an actual quote, enter your arrival and departure dates on Accor or your chosen booking platform.

Why the room rate may differ from your final bill

The same Superior room can appear under several different rates: room only, breakfast included, or a package with dining or other services.

For example, some booking channels have shown Mercure room offers with a 5.4% service charge included but 8% VAT excluded.

This illustrates why the headline rate and final payable amount are not always identical.

When comparing options, pay attention to the following:

  • Room only: Accommodation and the standard facilities listed in the package, without breakfast unless stated otherwise.
  • Bed and breakfast: Accommodation with breakfast for the specified number of guests.
  • Flexible rate: A rate with cancellation or modification conditions.
  • Saver or non-refundable rate: Often cheaper, but typically requires advance payment and offers little or no flexibility.
  • Total price: The amount payable for the entire stay, including the taxes and fees shown at checkout.

Mercure’s published booking policies distinguish between Flexible and Saver rates.

The Saver rate requires full payment when booking and does not allow refunds for cancellations or amendments.

Flexible rates have separate cancellation deadlines and reservation guarantee requirements.

Do not rely on the words free cancellation alone. Read the exact cancellation deadline attached to your reservation.

Is breakfast included in the room rate?

Not necessarily.

A room-only Superior rate may be cheaper than the same room with breakfast for two people. Once you add breakfast separately, however, the difference may become much smaller.

The fairest comparison is between rooms booked for the same dates, with the same occupancy and cancellation policy.

Then compare the package with breakfast against the one without it.

International guests booking through Accor should look for Breakfast included in the rate details.

On other booking platforms, check the meal inclusions and the exact number of breakfast servings.

If you are travelling with children, enter their ages correctly. A booking for two adults does not automatically guarantee complimentary breakfast for every child staying in the room.

Extra charges worth checking

The hotel currently advertises complimentary swimming pool access for staying guests, but other facilities and services may cost extra.

Check the charges for extra beds, additional occupants, breakfast not included in the package, chargeable minibar items, laundry beyond room-category privileges, airport transfers, spa treatments and late checkout.

Standard checkout is at 12:00 PM.

Keeping the room for several additional hours depends on availability and applicable conditions. A late evening flight does not automatically entitle you to complimentary late checkout.

For an extended stay, ask the hotel for a written quote showing the complete accommodation cost, number of breakfasts, included services and cancellation deadline.

This is particularly helpful when reserving apartments or multiple rooms for a family.

What is the swimming pool like at Mercure Hai Phong?

The rooftop swimming pool is one of Mercure’s most noticeable features.

The hotel has an outdoor infinity pool on the 28th floor, overlooking Hai Phong’s buildings and streets.

Published opening hours are 7:00 AM-9:00 PM, and hotel guests can use the pool without an additional admission charge.

The outdoor pool on the 28th floor, looking down over An Bien Lake and the city.

It is well suited to a relaxed swim, enjoying the view or spending an afternoon at the hotel rather than sightseeing.

Because it is outdoors, however, the experience depends heavily on the weather.

Hai Phong can be windy, damp and quite cold during winter. Some booking listings also indicate that the pool may close during the winter season.

If swimming is an important part of your trip in December, January or February, confirm that the pool will be operating before paying for your room.

Mercure’s outdoor pool is also not directly comparable to Sheraton Hai Phong’s heated indoor pool.

Can non-hotel guests use the pool?

Yes. Mercure publishes day-pass rates for visitors who are not staying at the hotel.

The property also has a Fitness Centre and Bloom Spa.

Spa treatments are separately priced, while gym access should be checked against the benefits included with your booking.

Restaurants and buffet dining at Mercure Hai Phong

Mercure’s dining facilities include Flame Grill & Bar, Cuppa Gourmet Café and Sky28 Bar & Dining.

They serve different purposes, with Flame being the most relevant venue for overnight guests.

Breakfast buffet at Flame Grill & Bar

Flame Grill & Bar is located on the sixth floor.

The breakfast buffet features Vietnamese, Western and other Asian choices, including Japanese- and Korean-style dishes.

The breakfast buffet counter at Flame Grill & Bar on the sixth floor.

According to the hotel’s descriptions, the selection includes bread, croissants, hot dishes, vegetables, international breakfast options and familiar Vietnamese food.

It is an international hotel breakfast rather than a specialised restaurant devoted to Hai Phong’s crab noodles or fish noodle soup.

Published breakfast hours are:

DayBreakfast hours
Monday-Friday6:00-9:30 AM
Saturday-Sunday6:00-10:00 AM

Flame also lists breakfast service until 10:00 AM on public holidays.

Travellers catching an early flight should take these hours seriously.

Breakfast starts at 6:00 AM, but you still need enough time to eat, check out and reach the airport.

The same applies if you have an early business appointment elsewhere in the city.

The notation ++ means applicable taxes and service charges are added to the listed price.

Nett indicates the total amount under the published offer.

Other domestic and international travellers should ask the restaurant for the price applicable to their booking rather than building their budget around the promotional rate.

You do not need to stay at Mercure to book breakfast.

Outside guests can contact the hotel at +84 225 3240 999 to check the price and reserve for a specific date.

Dinner, Saturday buffet and à la carte dining

Flame Grill & Bar serves lunch from 11:30 AM to 2:00 PM and dinner from 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM.

Its à la carte menu includes grilled meats, steaks, seafood, salads, sandwiches and Vietnamese dishes.

This broad selection is useful for groups with different food preferences.

Mercure has also advertised a Saturday evening buffet programme during 2026, scheduled from 6:00 PM to 9:30 PM, with the published offer running through December 31, 2026.

The buffet is promoted with chilled seafood, Japanese dishes, Korean food, Vietnamese specialities and a live BBQ station.

Promotions advertised for the programme include a dine-four-pay-three offer for advance group reservations, or a 10% discount when booking at least 24 hours ahead.

The offers cannot be combined, and the event page does not provide a single fixed ticket price. Contact the restaurant for the applicable amount.

Non-residents can reserve a table.

Just remember that a Saturday buffet programme does not mean the hotel serves a seafood buffet every evening.

Cuppa Gourmet Café and Sky28

Cuppa Gourmet Café is a convenient place for coffee, tea or a short meeting without leaving the hotel.

It can also be useful when waiting for a room or meeting someone before heading out.

Sky28 Bar & Dining occupies the 28th floor, where guests can enjoy elevated views over the city and the rooftop pool area.

If you are hoping to enjoy cocktails, afternoon tea or an evening view from the rooftop, contact the hotel first.

It would be disappointing to book primarily for rooftop nightlife and discover that the venue is closed to ordinary guests during your stay.

What do previous guests say about Mercure Hai Phong?

Mercure generally receives favourable guest ratings, although recent reviews are still worth reading before choosing a five-star property.

On Accor’s booking system, the hotel is rated around 4.6/5 from nearly 590 reviews, with staff and service drawing the most praise.

What guests commonly appreciate

Positive reviews frequently mention helpful staff, the central location, room cleanliness and breakfast.

A Japanese guest who stayed in June 2026 appreciated the location for business travel, its proximity to a market and a crab noodle restaurant, and the breakfast selection.

Several guests reviewing stays in 2025 also praised clean rooms, comfortable beds, varied breakfast choices and views from the higher floors.

The rooftop pool and large windows overlooking Hai Phong are additional attractions for travellers who enjoy city views and photography.

These comments align with Mercure’s main strengths: a full-service hotel close to the centre, suitable for short holidays and business trips.

Complaints worth knowing about

Not every review is positive.

A family staying in August 2026 wrote that some rooms needed refurbishment. They also questioned aspects of the dining layout and found the arrangement of apartment and hotel floors less convenient than expected.

A guest from the United States reviewing a July 2026 stay described the room as clean and comfortable, with a good breakfast, but felt the pool area needed updating and that the overall service did not fully meet five-star expectations.

Other Accor reviews have mentioned individual issues involving check-in, luggage assistance, hot-water pressure or Wi-Fi connectivity.

These are reports from individual stays, not proof that every room has the same problems.

Still, they are relevant if you plan to stay for several days or need reliable internet for online meetings.

When you arrive, check the air conditioning, hot water, Wi-Fi and general room condition early.

If something is not working, reporting it during the stay gives the hotel a better opportunity to help than mentioning it only at checkout.

Mercure vs Sheraton Hai Phong: which should you choose?

Mercure and Sheraton are both among Hai Phong’s larger five-star hotels, but their locations and overall experiences differ.

Mercure is at 12 Lach Tray Street, near the stadium, Opera House and traditional central neighbourhoods.

Sheraton Hai Phong is in the Vinhomes Imperia urban development, at 1 Hanoi Road in the Hong Bang area.

Exploring the older centreMore convenient on footUsually requires a car

Mercure is generally the better base if you want to walk around the older centre, try local food and spend much of your day outside the hotel.

You can start with crab noodles, head towards the Opera House in the afternoon, and return to Lach Tray for dinner without planning a complicated route.

Sheraton may be more appealing if you prefer a modern development, extensive upscale facilities and especially an indoor swimming pool.

During colder months, that last difference may matter more than a few extra minutes in a taxi.

For families staying several days, Mercure’s serviced apartments deserve particular attention. Kitchens, washing machines and separate bedrooms can make an extended trip more comfortable than booking several conventional hotel rooms.

For a one-night luxury stay where you mainly want to use the pool, spa and lounge, Sheraton may be the more suitable choice.

As for pricing, compare both hotels for exactly the same dates and number of guests.

A room-only Superior rate at Mercure is not directly comparable to a Sheraton room with breakfast or club lounge benefits included.

You would be paying for different packages, not simply different hotel names.

When is Mercure Hai Phong not the best place to stay?

Mercure has a convenient central location, but not every visit to Hai Phong requires a city-centre hotel.

Your trip is mainly about Do Son Beach

If your plan is to swim, eat seafood and spend evenings by the coast, accommodation in Do Son will be more convenient.

You can visit Do Son from Mercure by car, but doing so adds travel time in both directions.

Staying in the city only to travel to the beach every morning and return every evening makes the itinerary unnecessarily tiring.

You have a very early flight

Mercure is not far from Cat Bi Airport, but reaching the terminal still requires a drive.

Travellers with an early departure, several suitcases or young children may prefer staying closer to the airport.

If you have meetings in the centre and only one flight at the end of the trip, Mercure remains a reasonable option.

You want the old town atmosphere immediately outside

Mercure is near Hai Phong’s older streets, not tucked away in a historic lane or directly overlooking Tam Bac Lake.

If your ideal stay involves walking out into long-established local streets, traditional food shops and a lakeside promenade, consider accommodation around Tam Bac, Cau Dat or the Opera House.

You are travelling on a tight budget

If you leave the hotel early each morning and return only to sleep, you may not make much use of its pool, spa, lounge or other five-star services.

A mid-range hotel near the centre could be more economical.

The difference in room price might be better spent on local food and transport than on an upgrade you barely use.

How to book Mercure Hai Phong without choosing the wrong rate

International travellers can book through Accor or platforms such as Booking.com, Agoda and Expedia.

Vietnamese guests can also contact Mercure’s reservation team directly to ask about room packages with breakfast.

Before confirming, work through the following steps.

Step 1: Enter the correct dates and occupancy.

Select your arrival and departure dates, the number of adults, and the number and ages of children.

For multi-bedroom apartments, check the maximum permitted occupancy rather than assuming everyone can stay simply because there are enough beds.

Step 2: Choose the accommodation type.

Superior rooms suit shorter stays. Privilege rooms provide extra lounge access and associated benefits. Suites offer more living space, while apartments are designed for longer-term daily use.

Do not book a Studio Apartment expecting a completely separate bedroom just because the word apartment appears in the name.

Step 3: Check breakfast inclusions.

Look for the number of breakfasts included, whether children are covered, and the cost of adding meals.

For a multi-night stay, calculate the total breakfast cost rather than focusing on the charge for one morning.

Step 4: Review the final payable amount.

Check taxes, service charges, payment conditions, extra-bed costs and services excluded from your rate.

Accor member offers should be compared with third-party prices under the same conditions.

Step 5: Read the cancellation policy.

If your flight schedule or business arrangements are uncertain, a cancellable rate may be safer than a prepaid Saver rate.

Pay attention to the exact date and time after which cancellation fees apply.

Step 6: Confirm special requests.

If you need a high-floor room, twin beds, bathtub, non-smoking room or extra bed, contact the hotel directly.

Treat these requests as guaranteed only once the property explicitly confirms them.

Mercure’s standard check-in is from 2:00 PM, with checkout at 12:00 PM.

If you arrive in Hai Phong by morning train, you can ask about leaving your luggage at reception and heading out for breakfast or sightseeing before check-in.

Guests reserving rooms for colleagues or relatives using their own payment cards should also check the hotel’s card policy.

Mercure may require the card used to guarantee the reservation to be presented, depending on the payment arrangement. Third-party card payments may require authorisation and supporting documents.

For international travellers, a confirmation email containing the booking reference, passport name, room category, final amount and expected arrival time is more useful than relying solely on a screenshot of the advertised rate.

Is Mercure Hai Phong worth staying at?

Mercure is a worthwhile option for travellers who want an internationally branded hotel with a fairly complete range of services, a convenient location near the older city centre and serviced apartments for extended stays.

For a two- or three-day business or sightseeing trip, a Superior room may be all you need.

Privilege becomes more attractive if you will actually use the lounge and other included benefits. Families staying for a week should look at one- or two-bedroom apartments before deciding to reserve multiple hotel rooms.

It is also worth considering the mixed feedback about room condition and service, along with the possibility that the outdoor pool may not operate during colder weather.

Mercure makes most sense when you choose it for its location, room layout and practical facilities rather than expecting every feature of a dedicated luxury resort.

Mercure Hai Phong is at 12 Lach Tray Street, Le Chan Ward, with check-in from 2:00 PM. Call +84 225 3240 999 or email H9183@accor.com to confirm the final room rate, breakfast arrangements and room category before paying.

Should I stay at Mercure or Sheraton Hai Phong?
