What to see and where to stay on a 3-day, 2-night trip to Hai Phong and Cat Ba?

Three days and two nights are enough for central Hai Phong, Cat Ba Island, a Lan Ha Bay cruise, and a final afternoon in Do Son or Vu Yen. Sleep in the city on the first night and on Cat Ba Island on the second, and book your return transport before planning the final day.

A sightseeing boat cruises between two sheer limestone cliffs in Lan Ha Bay, a small boat towing a yellow kayak behind it and a tree-covered island ridge beyond.

Visiting Hai Phong for the first time and wondering how to fit its historic streets, famous local food, Cat Ba Island, and Lan Ha Bay into one trip? This plan gives the first day to the city center, the second to Cat Ba, and the last to Do Son, Vu Yen, or a direct ride back to Hanoi. Each day has only one long transfer, so you aren’t chasing departure times the whole trip.

Your 3-day, 2-night Hai Phong itinerary at a glance

You sleep in two places: central Hai Phong on the first night, Cat Ba Town on the second. Hai Phong’s attractions are spread across the mainland and nearby islands, so staying along your route saves a lot of travel time.

DayMain activitiesWhere to stay
Day 1Hai Phong Railway Station - French Quarter - Opera House - Cat Bi Market - evening food tourCentral Hai Phong
Day 2Ben Binh - Cat Ba Island - Lan Ha Bay - seaside townCat Ba Town
Day 3Morning on Cat Ba - Do Son, Vu Yen, or direct transfer to HanoiEnd of trip

This itinerary suits first-time visitors traveling independently, whether you’re taking the train from Hanoi or flying into Cat Bi International Airport.

The timings assume you reach Hai Phong before 9 AM on the first day, and the final day is mostly about getting home. If your flight lands around lunchtime or later, you’ll need to shorten the first day’s sightseeing.

Day 1: explore Hai Phong’s French Quarter, historic streets, and local food

Travel stays short on your first day. Central Hai Phong has leafy boulevards, French colonial architecture, and long-established food stalls, enough for a full day of walking, taking photographs, and eating.

The yellow Hai Phong Post Office wraps around a street corner, a round clock at the top and motorbikes parked under the trees beside it.
  1. 6:00-9:00 AM

Travel from Hanoi to Hai Phong

The train is one of the most convenient ways to reach Hai Phong.

The HP1 service is scheduled to depart Hanoi Railway Station at 6:00 AM and arrive in Hai Phong at approximately 8:25 AM, taking around 2 hours and 25 minutes.

The Hanoi-Hai Phong railway generally operates four pairs of trains daily. Standard seats cost approximately VND 120,000-165,000 one way, while rotating seats and VIP carriages cost more. Actual fares vary depending on seat class, travel date, and ticket availability.

Hai Phong Railway Station is located at 75 Luong Khanh Thien Street, right in the central area. From here, you can walk to several historic streets or take a short taxi ride to your hotel to leave your luggage.

For international visitors and domestic travelers arriving by air, Cat Bi Airport is approximately 9-10 km from the city center by road. Grab and Green SM electric taxis both show an estimated fare in the app before you book.

  2. 9:00 AM-12:00 PM

    Walk Hai Phong's French Quarter

Start with a bowl of banh da cua, Hai Phong’s crab noodle soup, then begin your walk at the City Opera House Square.

The Opera House, at 28 Tran Hung Dao Street, is known for its European-style architecture and elegant facade. It’s also a convenient starting point for a walking route through the old city.

From the square, you can visit several nearby landmarks:

    • Central Flower Gardens: A green corridor running through the city center, ideal for a relaxed stroll and observing everyday life.
    • Hai Phong Central Post Office: A historic building near the intersection of Nguyen Tri Phuong and Hoang Van Thu streets, with distinctive old architecture.
    • Hai Phong Museum: Located at 66 Dien Bien Phu Street, this is a place to learn about the history and culture of the port city.

Admiring these buildings from outside is free. However, access to the Opera House auditorium is generally tied to scheduled events, while the museum’s opening arrangements and available exhibitions should be confirmed before visiting.

The old streets are best taken slowly: walk beneath the trees, look at the older buildings, and stop for coffee at whichever corner catches your eye.

  3. 12:00-2:30 PM

    Lunch and a short break

Lunch is a good opportunity to try two of Hai Phong’s signature dishes: bun ca cay, spicy fish noodle soup, or banh da cua, crab noodle soup.

A bowl of crab noodles typically costs around VND 50,000, while spicy fish noodles cost approximately VND 30,000-50,000.

You could also order a few banh mi cay, the city’s small, crispy baguettes usually filled with pâté and served with spicy chili sauce. These miniature sandwiches can cost around VND 3,000 each.

After lunch, check in at your hotel and rest for a while before the afternoon snack run.

  4. 3:00-5:00 PM

Enjoy street food at Cat Bi Market

Cat Bi Market rewards anyone who enjoys learning about local culture through food.

The market is in the Hai An area, some distance from the historic center, so taking a taxi is more practical than walking.

Between 3 PM and 5 PM, you’ll find plenty of small stalls serving local snacks.

Some dishes worth trying include Hai Phong-style steamed rice cakes, stir-fried mantis shrimp and other seafood specialties, crispy pancakes, fried dumplings, and Vietnamese sweet desserts.

    Typical prices include:

FoodApproximate price
Hai Phong steamed rice cakesVND 15,000-20,000 per pair
Stir-fried local shellfish (gia be xao)From VND 30,000 per small bowl
Fried dumplings and crispy pancakesVND 15,000-30,000 per portion
Vietnamese sweet desserts (che)From VND 10,000
Coconut dessert (dua dam)VND 20,000-25,000 per cup

Around VND 150,000 per person is a reasonable budget for sampling several dishes, depending on portions and stall prices.

  1. 6:00-9:30 PM

    Experience Hai Phong after dark

Hai Phong feels different after sunset. Food stalls light up, groups of friends gather outside restaurants, and the city center becomes lively.

You can return to the Opera House area, stroll around the central gardens, and find somewhere for dinner.

Another option is the evening commercial, cultural, and food street around 53 Lach Tray, near An Bien Lake.

The area began a pilot program scheduled from October 2026 to April 2027, with expected operating hours from 5 PM to midnight. As a pilot, its schedule can change, so look for an announcement before heading there.

The pedestrian food area near the Opera House also previously ran a Friday and Saturday evening trial through October 24, 2026. Its schedule after that date is unclear, and it does not open every night.

Around 9:30 PM, head back to your hotel and get some rest before the journey to Cat Ba the following morning.

After dark, Hai Phong Opera House lights up behind the flower beds of the central square.

Where should you stay on the first night?

A hotel or homestay in Hong Bang or Ngo Quyen works best, preferably near the historic streets and Ben Binh. The center is walkable from there, and the boat or transfer pickup point is close the next morning.

Homestays and small rental properties can start at approximately VND 300,000 per night. Higher-end hotels such as Sheraton, Pullman, Meliá Vinpearl, and Mercure often start at around VND 2 million per night, depending on the date and room category.

Day 2: travel to Cat Ba Island and discover Lan Ha Bay

Day 2 means matching two timetables: your island transport and the departure time of your Lan Ha Bay cruise.

Book the transfer and the cruise together before the trip, rather than arriving on Cat Ba and hoping to find a suitable tour.

  1. 7:00-11:30 AM

Travel from Hai Phong to Cat Ba Island

There are three main ways to reach the island.

Option 1: direct speedboat from Ben Binh

60-70 minutes, from VND 250,000 per trip

When the service is running, direct speedboats from Ben Binh to Cat Ba take around 60-70 minutes, with fares starting at approximately VND 250,000 per person per trip.

One published Cat Ba Express schedule lists departures at 9 AM and 1 PM. However, the operator also indicates that its direct speedboat route is suspended from September through April of the following year.

In autumn or winter, plan around Option 2 or 3 rather than counting on a 9 AM boat.

Option 2: combined bus and boat transfer via Dong Bai

Bus 8:45 AM from Ben Binh, Cat Ba around 10:30 AM

This is often a more practical choice when direct services are suspended.

Cat Ba Express advertises a combined bus-and-boat journey for approximately VND 250,000 per person, departing from Ben Binh, traveling overland to Dong Bai, and continuing by boat to Cat Ba.

One published schedule includes a bus leaving Ben Binh at 8:45 AM, a boat departing Dong Bai at 9:40 AM, and arrival in the Cat Ba area at approximately 10:30 AM.

Check the current schedule, actual drop-off location, and onward travel time to Cat Ba Town with the operator before booking.

Option 3: ferry or cable car via Dong Bai

Ferry 30-40 minutes, cable car VND 70,000 one way

From central Hai Phong, travel approximately 27 km by road toward Dong Bai Ferry Terminal or the Cat Hai cable car station.

  • Dong Bai-Cai Vieng ferry: The crossing takes around 30-40 minutes. From September 1 to December 31, 2026, ferries operate throughout the day, but the last return crossing from Cai Vieng leaves around 5:30 PM.
  • Cat Hai-Phu Long cable car: Adult fares are VND 70,000 one way. Its schedule includes operating periods ending around 3:30-3:45 PM. The service closes on Tuesdays, and times may change.

After arriving on the Cat Ba side, you’ll still need to travel approximately 20-23 km by road to reach the town center, so the whole journey takes considerably longer than the crossing itself.

  1. 11:30 AM-3:30 PM

Check in, have lunch, and explore Cat Ba Town

Once you reach Cat Ba, leave your luggage at the hotel and find somewhere nearby for lunch.

Cat Ba Town has seafood restaurants, casual Vietnamese eateries, and cafés along the waterfront. Eat close by, since the boat leaves later in the afternoon.

The Cat Co beaches are roughly 500 meters from the town center, walkable from many hotels. Use the time for sea views, photos, or a rest before your cruise.

During the cooler months, a waterfront walk and a coffee with a view can be enough. In summer, swimming is another option, provided you stay within designated areas during lifeguard hours.

  2. 4:00-7:00 PM

Take an afternoon cruise on Lan Ha Bay

If you reach Cat Ba in the morning, an afternoon or sunset cruise on Lan Ha Bay fits best. Full-day tours start picking up passengers between 8 AM and 8:30 AM, when you’re still on your way to the island.

Some operators offer sunset cruises with hotel pickups around 4:00-4:30 PM, departing from Ben Beo and returning at approximately 6:30-7:00 PM.

Prices are generally around VND 450,000-600,000 per person, depending on the operator and included services.

From Ben Beo, boats travel through areas of limestone islands, floating fishing communities, and the distinctive scenery of Lan Ha Bay.

As the sun drops, low light falls across the cliffs and water, and the deck is the place to be for photos.

Before booking, ask three questions: What are the exact pickup and return times? Is the bay entrance fee included? Which water activities are currently permitted?

From 2026, the daytime sightseeing fee for the bays around the Cat Ba archipelago is VND 120,000 per adult and VND 60,000 for children aged six and older. Some cruise operators include this fee in their tour prices.

Kayaking activities around Cat Ba’s bays have also faced temporary restrictions related to permits and safety. Don’t assume kayaking will be available just because it’s shown in promotional photographs. Ask the operator whether it is permitted on your travel date and what alternative activity is offered if kayaking is unavailable.

What if you want a longer cruise?

You can choose a full-day Lan Ha Bay trip or certain premium cruises with later boarding times around 10:30-11:00 AM.

This only works when your transfer provider confirms you’ll reach Cat Ba early enough to travel onward to Ben Beo.

Standard full-day cruises usually finish around 4-5 PM, with prices starting at approximately VND 700,000-900,000 per person. Premium cruises can cost considerably more.

Combining an island transfer scheduled to arrive at 10:30 AM with a cruise departing at exactly the same time is asking for trouble. That leaves virtually no room for delays.

  3. 7:30-9:30 PM

Dinner and overnight stay in Cat Ba Town

After returning from Lan Ha Bay, enjoy a seafood dinner, walk along the waterfront, or find a café overlooking the harbor.

On a three-day Hai Phong and Cat Ba itinerary, a second night on the island means no rush for the last boat after your cruise, and one more morning on Cat Ba.

Hotels along 1/4 Street and Tung Dinh offer a wide range of accommodation, with sea-view rooms typically costing around VND 500,000-1,000,000 per night.

Budget homestays can start at VND 300,000, while resorts near Cat Co beaches generally start at around VND 2 million per night.

International travelers should bring their original passports for temporary residence registration at both accommodations.

Hotels are required to register foreign guests, but travelers aren’t legally required to leave their passports at reception.

Day 3: enjoy your final morning on Cat Ba, then choose Do Son, Vu Yen, or Hanoi

The final day has three directions: Do Son, Vu Yen, or straight back to Hanoi. Squeezing Do Son and Vu Yen into one afternoon leaves most of it on the road.

What should you do on Cat Ba in the morning?

Heading back to central Hai Phong for more sightseeing? Then stay close to town in the morning.

Between 6:30 AM and 7:30 AM, have breakfast, walk along the waterfront, or enjoy the views near Cat Co.

Then check out and take your prebooked transfer off the island, ideally leaving around 8-9 AM if you want time to explore the mainland that afternoon.

Travelers taking a direct bus to Hanoi around noon or later can spend more time exploring Cat Ba.

With that extra time, pick one of these two.

Hospital Cave: This former wartime field hospital was built inside a mountain and is now a historical attraction. The interior is cool and equipped with lighting, making it a reasonable choice during light rain. Check current opening hours and admission prices, and allow time to travel from town.

The main corridor inside Hospital Cave, with concrete walls, a row of ceiling lights and doorways opening on both sides.

Cat Ba National Park: The central route through Kim Giao, Ngu Lam, and Trung Trang Cave appeals to travelers who enjoy nature walks.

Admission for this route is VND 120,000 per adult and VND 60,000 for children aged six and older.

The path toward Ngu Lam viewpoint includes steep sections that can become slippery when wet, so it’s not suitable for a rushed morning.

Whichever you choose, leave at least 30-60 minutes between finishing the visit and your transfer pickup.

Option 1: return to Hai Phong and visit Do Son beach

Do Son is a good choice for travelers who enjoy coastal scenery, seafood, and a relaxed atmosphere rather than theme parks.

The beach area is approximately 20 km from central Hai Phong, generally around 20-30 minutes by car in favorable traffic.

Here’s a suggested schedule:

TimeActivity
8:00-9:00 AMLeave Cat Ba Town
11:00 AM-12:00 PMExpected arrival in central Hai Phong
12:00-1:00 PMLunch
1:00-1:30 PMTravel to Do Son
1:30-4:00 PMWalk along the beach, enjoy coffee or seafood
4:00-5:00 PMReturn to central Hai Phong
Before 6:00 PMReach Hai Phong Railway Station for your return train

These are planning estimates, not guaranteed transfer times. Only use this itinerary if you’ve secured an early enough departure from Cat Ba.

Do Son’s water is often brownish from coastal sediment, unlike the clearer water at some island beaches.

May through August is generally more suitable for swimming, while autumn and winter can be pleasant for walks and seafood meals.

An empty stretch of Do Son beach, small waves and silty grey-brown water under a cloudy sky.

When ordering seafood sold by weight, check the price and watch it being weighed before cooking.

Do Son also has Hon Dau Island, reached by a short boat trip, but the boats depend on weather and operating conditions. With a fixed train or flight on the final day, leave Hon Dau out: waiting for a boat could cost you the connection.

Option 2: visit Vu Yen and VinWonders

Vu Yen suits families with children, groups of friends interested in entertainment, and travelers who want a modern leisure experience.

The island is connected to central Hai Phong by Hoang Gia Bridge.

The bridge crossing itself takes only a few minutes once you’ve reached the approach, although you’ll still need additional time to reach individual attractions.

One of the main destinations is VinWonders Vu Yen, featuring amusement attractions, a zoo, and a seasonal water park.

Reference ticket prices for 2026:

Ticket typeAdultsChildren 1 m to under 1.4 m
Zoo + amusement areaVND 300,000VND 200,000
Combo including water parkVND 450,000VND 310,000

Children under 1 meter receive free admission under the park’s ticket policy. Prices may change depending on the date and available promotions.

Published operating hours are approximately 9 AM-6:30 PM on weekdays and 8:30 AM-7:30 PM on weekends.

The Aloha Water Park operates seasonally, so check availability during the cooler months.

VinBus HP1 and HP2 provide free services to the Vincom Royal Island area. Their terminal isn’t directly at the VinWonders entrance, so allow extra time for onward travel.

If you return from Cat Ba around lunchtime, you’ll probably have only two or three hours at the park before heading to the railway station.

That’s enough for a few selected attractions, but not a complete day of amusement park activities.

Option 3: travel directly from Cat Ba to Hanoi

This option suits travelers who don’t want to return to central Hai Phong, especially if they have more plans in Hanoi or elsewhere in northern Vietnam.

Several operators provide combined bus transfers from Cat Ba to Hanoi, using a speedboat, cable car, or ferry crossing along the way.

One published Cat Ba Express schedule lists:

Departure from Cat BaEstimated arrival in Hanoi
9:30 AM12:45-1:00 PM
12:30 PM4:15-4:30 PM
3:30 PM6:45-7:15 PM
5:00 PM7:45-8:15 PM

Cat Ba Express advertises fares of approximately USD 13 per person for a bus-and-speedboat combination, with different fares for cable car and ferry-based limousine services.

Good Morning Cat Ba also offers standard and VIP transfers, with published fares of around USD 11-15 per person.

These arrival times are estimates, not guaranteed arrival times. Weather and road traffic can cause delays.

Most services drop passengers in Hanoi’s Old Quarter rather than directly at Noi Bai International Airport.

If you’re catching a flight, arrange a separate airport transfer and leave plenty of time between connections.

The 12:30 PM departure keeps your last morning on Cat Ba and still gets you to Hanoi before evening.

The 3:30 PM departure works better if you’d like to explore the island for longer.

How much does a 3-day, 2-night Hai Phong trip cost?

Your budget will depend mainly on accommodation, your Lan Ha Bay cruise, and how you travel between Hai Phong and Cat Ba.

The estimates below assume two people sharing a double room and choosing reasonably priced food and transport, with costs shown per person.

ExpenseEstimated cost per person
Hanoi-Hai Phong return train ticketsVND 240,000-400,000
Hai Phong-Cat Ba return transportVND 300,000-500,000
Two nights’ accommodation, sharing a double roomVND 300,000-850,000
Food for three daysVND 350,000-600,000
Half-day Lan Ha Bay cruiseVND 450,000-650,000
Taxis and local transportVND 150,000-350,000
Bay entrance fee, if not included in the tourVND 0-120,000
Estimated totalVND 1,790,000-3,470,000

A budget of approximately VND 1.8-3.5 million per person is therefore a useful starting point for a trip combining Hai Phong’s historic center and Cat Ba Island.

This estimate excludes VinWonders admission, optional expenses in Do Son, personal shopping, and flights.

Solo travelers will generally spend more on accommodation and private transfers.

If you’re taking a direct bus from Cat Ba to Hanoi, replace the return island-to-city transfer and train ticket with your actual combined transport fare, and don’t count both routes.

Keep at least VND 500,000 in reserve, particularly during the rainy and typhoon seasons. An extra night stuck on Cat Ba can cost more than that.

What should you do if it rains or the sea is rough?

Weather is one of the biggest uncertainties when planning a trip to Cat Ba.

Light rain in Hai Phong city may barely affect your sightseeing, but strong winds and rough seas can lead to the suspension of ferries, speedboats, and sightseeing cruises.

Rain on the mainland and safe operating conditions at sea are two different things.

Just because the rain has stopped doesn’t mean boats have been authorized to depart.

Scenario 1: it rains on day 1 but the sea is calm on day 2

You can generally keep the original itinerary and replace some outdoor walking with cafés, museums, or other indoor attractions.

Cat Bi Market and covered food stalls may still be enjoyable in light or moderate rain.

Day 2 on Cat Ba then goes ahead, provided that your transport service and cruise operator confirm they’re operating.

Scenario 2: heavy rain or your Lan Ha Bay cruise is canceled on day 2

While transport to Cat Ba is still operating safely, the island trip goes ahead, with the town, Hospital Cave, or the island’s land-based routes in place of the cruise.

Another possibility is moving your Lan Ha Bay cruise to the morning of Day 3, provided the operator has an available sailing and you can still catch your return transport.

Moving the cruise to the final morning usually means skipping Do Son and Vu Yen.

Don’t try to fit a morning cruise and a tightly scheduled afternoon connection into the same day.

Scenario 3: ferries, speedboats, or sea routes are suspended

Drop the island part of the itinerary and stay on mainland Hai Phong.

Spend Day 2 exploring Vu Yen or Do Son when road conditions are safe, or discover more attractions around the city.

Stay in central Hai Phong for your second night and use the final day to explore any remaining places before returning home.

Rearranging the days is only sensible when the weather forecast, transport schedules, and accommodation cancellation policies allow it.

Don’t travel to Cat Ba during rough weather simply hoping boats will be operating again the following morning.

The typhoon season around Hai Phong is generally concentrated between June and October, although severe weather can also occur outside this period.

During an August 2026 storm, marine transport in Hai Phong was significantly disrupted.

In the wetter months, choose accommodation with flexible cancellation policies, monitor official transport announcements, and prepare for the possibility of extending the trip.

What is the best time for a 3-day Hai Phong trip?

You can visit Hai Phong throughout the year, although experiences in the city center and on the islands vary considerably with the seasons.

PeriodTypical conditionsBest for
March-AprilGradually warmer, sometimes humid or mistyCity walks and nature trips
May-JuneHot weather and warm seawaterSwimming and beach holidays
July-SeptemberSummer rain and typhoon riskBeach trips with backup plans
October-NovemberMilder conditions and fewer domestic touristsWalking, bay sightseeing, photography
December-FebruaryCool weather and colder seawaterCity exploration and peaceful seaside breaks

These descriptions reflect typical seasonal conditions, not a forecast for your specific travel dates.

For a trip combining the city center and Cat Ba, March-April and October-November work best. Walking between attractions is more comfortable, and Lan Ha Bay is still worth the cruise when it’s too cool to swim.

May through August is better for travelers who enjoy summer beach weather, but weekends and public holidays can be crowded.

Hotels, ferries, cruise tours, and other transport services may sell out during peak periods.

If you’re traveling late in the year, check whether direct speedboats from Ben Binh are operating and whether your preferred Lan Ha Bay cruise is available.

Some services are seasonal rather than year-round.

Practical booking tips to avoid missing your last connection

Book your return journey before finalizing your sightseeing, especially if you’re relying on the 6:40 PM HP2 train or a scheduled bus from Cat Ba to Hanoi. Once the return time is fixed, it’s clear whether there’s enough time for Do Son or Vu Yen.

Next, coordinate your island transfer with your Lan Ha Bay tour.

The transport company and cruise operator may use completely different pickup locations and schedules. Looking at each timetable separately can lead to arriving on the island after your cruise has already departed.

Ask whether your hotel can store luggage: you may arrive before check-in on Day 1 and need to leave early on Day 2. Traveling with a small suitcase or manageable backpack will make transfers, boat boarding, and walking much easier.

Finally, save the contact information for your hotels, transport providers, and tour operators on your phone.

For international visitors, confirming arrangements by email or English-language messaging can help you keep a written record of pickup times, locations, and cancellation policies.

Split this way, the three days aren’t swallowed by stations and ferry terminals: one day in the port city, one afternoon on Lan Ha Bay, and a return that still makes the train.

Frequently asked questions

What should I visit in Hai Phong in three days and two nights?

Spend your first day exploring the historic streets, Opera House, and local food scene. On Day 2, travel to Cat Ba Island and take a Lan Ha Bay cruise. On the final day, choose Do Son, Vu Yen, or a direct transfer to Hanoi. This itinerary works well for first-time visitors because it avoids changing accommodation too frequently.

Should I stay in Hai Phong city or on Cat Ba Island?

For a trip covering both the city and Lan Ha Bay, one night in central Hai Phong and one on Cat Ba Island works best. The first night puts you within walking distance of the historic center, and the second lets you rest on the island after your cruise instead of rushing for the last boat.

How much does a 3-day Hai Phong trip cost?

Expect approximately VND 1.8-3.5 million per person when traveling as a pair, sharing a double room, using standard transport, and joining a half-day bay cruise. Your costs may increase if you choose luxury hotels, premium cruises, or additional attractions such as VinWonders.

Is it better to visit Do Son, Vu Yen, or return directly to Hanoi on the last day?

Do Son is ideal for seafood and coastal scenery, while Vu Yen is better for families and travelers interested in amusement attractions. For a simpler journey, a direct bus from Cat Ba to Hanoi saves the extra transfers. With an important flight or appointment, pick whichever route involves the fewest connections.

Can I visit Cat Ba and Lan Ha Bay during the rainy or typhoon season?

Light rain is usually fine, but boats may only depart when the authorities and operators permit them to operate. During rough seas or official transport suspensions, switch to mainland attractions and keep your itinerary flexible rather than attempting to travel to the island.
